Do you suffer from FOMO – the Fear of Missing Out?
The acronym may be relatively new but the concept certainly isn’t. Marketers have been trading on it for years to entice their audience into making purchases.

Are you on TikTok?
No? OMG you are totally missing out…or are you?
Did you have it in your digital marketing plan for this year to add another platform? Probably not.
Have you mastered the platforms you are already on so that you are using them to their fullest potential? Possibly not.
You only need to be where your ideal customers are and right now, they won’t be on Clubhouse.
FOMO or the green-eyed monster?
When you look at what FOMO is, it is just jealousy that has been given a sexy new name.
Jealousy has never been an admirable trait in anyone.
If you are not careful jealousy can be a very destructive emotion. Why spend your time worrying about what everyone else is doing, wearing, reading, watching, promoting?
You are you. Your business is unique to you. The only way to stand out is to be you and to celebrate what makes you different from the rest of the pack. Copying what the next person is doing won’t help your customers understand your Unique Selling Proposition (USP). You need to have the confidence to forge your own path and that means sticking to your plan.
The beauty of having a plan
Have you got a business plan or a marketing plan for the year?
It doesn’t have to be complicated or formatted in a fancy way, the content is more important than the presentation.
Start by setting out where you are now and where you want to be by the end of the year. Then itemise the steps you need to take to get you there. This should cover the products/services you are offering, an understanding of your potential customers, the price of your goods and services and an idea of how you are going to promote them.
If you need help to do this, I have a 10-week course that will guide you through these steps and help you work out the best way of promoting your business.
Once you have your plan, stick to it. Don’t let external influences drag you off course.
If you want to venture onto TikTok that’s OK but don’t spend your time feeling jealous of the ones that are already on it.
Keep focused on what you are doing now and what you have planned. That way you are more likely to end up where you wanted to be.
